Here are a few pictures of the black quilt I’m working on that will be in our local quilt show this November. I started this sometime last year just as something to do and because I love these really cute dresden plates.
I had a bundle of 6 inch strips in these soft pastels that I thought would be beautiful together. Than surprise, surprise a Kaffe Fasset fabric with little flowers became the perfect centers for these dresen plates. Even more shocking was KF cabbages became the leaves.
I know I have a problem with not using too much color or prints but that’s just the way I’m made. I blame it on the ugly 70’s clothes I wore as a child!
So this quilt is quite a departure from my norm, but I love this quilt! I love that everything, ecxept the flange which came from Lynn Wilder (sew’n in wild oaks, blogspot). I designed the tiny dresdens, the layout and the border. I feel happy when I look at it!
The quilting has begun. Simple ditching to start with than some sparkle threads that will hopefully show up on the black. I may regret the use of the sparkle thread after I try it out but I’m hopeful at this point.
I’m just going to work on this a little bit everyday. It’ll be better on my back and keep me from getting bored and treating it like a chore. I want to love this quilt all the way to the binding, not hate it before the borders. Also I want to work on other projects, like that new hexie quilt. I can not wait to play with that!
Have a wonderful Friday and hope you get some creative time this weekend.
Take care my friends, Brandie
